BIOGRAPHY
Mary
Anne Epp, a native of Waterloo Region, has an appeal that's
absolutely worth hearing. She
began her writing at the tender age of seven.
Says she, "For me, writing has always been a tool to
help me figure out what my thoughts and feelings are and then to
express them." And
with three songwriter albums to her credit and another on the way,
there's no shortage of material for her powerful bitter-sweet
mezzo voice.
Her
intention in creating these albums is to collect and document her
thoughts and experiences; which are not so different from that of
her peers. Her
smorgasbord of songs, strong in both rhythm and melody, variably
answer the question - what's important to me now?
Mary
Anne is not only known for her performance ability, but also for
her contribution to others musicians within her community.
In the summer of 92’, she was the first to host Bluebird
Songwriter showcases in her regional neighbourhood, and she
graciously beckoned the local media to shine a light on the
abundance of talent in their own backyard.
Most recently,
she coordinated an excursion to the U.S. for a half dozen local
songwriters to play at the infamous Bluebird Café in Nashville.
Mary
Anne has been blessed with gifts from both her parents.
She has the charm and wit of her mother, Annie - a
hardworking farm girl from Ireland with a remarkable twinkle in
her bright blue eyes and a lovely lilt in her sterling silver
brogue. Mary Anne
also inherited the talent and charisma of her father, Henry, a
farm boy from the Ukraine with a heart full of music and a voice
that turned heads and commanded attention.
Combine that with passion, tenacity, discipline, and a
stellar songwriting ability.
Throw in a wide range of musical influences that make her
difficult to categorize ...and you've got the makings of a
unforgettable experience. A
concert with Mary Anne is an inspirational journey, whether she's
fronting her band or performing solo.
Most often described as uplifting, most of her themes are
conscious in nature. You
may feel chills, but most certainly you will feel loved. |
